As I Am

Directed by Alan Spearman · Starring Kevione Austin, Chris Dean, Blind Mississippi Morris · 2012

In South Memphis, Chris Dean—who survived his heart stopping as a toddler and lost his father to gang gunfire at five—shares his poetic, clear-eyed view of life around him.

A young man's poetic, clear-eyed reflections make this an intimate, moving portrait of life in South Memphis.

Chris Dean’s heart stopped when he was two. When Chris was five, his father was murdered, riddled by more than 20 bullets in a gang shootout. Chris is a poetic observer with much to say about life in South Memphis.
