Cinelet helps you discover free short films. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: nora@xranks.com.
What we collect
- Nothing about you to start with: you can watch without an account. The app gets a random guest account that holds only what you do with films.
- Your Google account basics if you choose to sign in: name, email address and profile photo address, through Google's sign-in (Firebase Authentication). Signing in keeps your guest history in your account.
- What you do with films: likes, passes, saves, films you skip or finish, how long you watched, and how long a film took to start. This is what personalises your feed.
- Films you add yourself (links you share to the app).
- Technical data: your device model (to label your sign-in), your IP address in short-lived server logs, and crash reports if the app crashes (what went wrong in the app's code, device model, Android version and a random installation ID; no film history, no email).
We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising. The app doesn't read your advertising ID.
The optional daily reminder is a notification your phone shows by itself at 7 pm. No push service is involved and nothing is sent to us.
Why we use it
- To run your account and keep your history across devices.
- To recommend films you're likely to enjoy (a recommender running on our own server).
- To keep the service working and secure, and to fix crashes.
Who processes it
- Google (Firebase Authentication): sign-in. Firebase processes sign-in data in the United States.
- Google (Firebase Crashlytics): crash reports, so we can fix crashes. Kept by Google for 90 days.
- Google Analytics for Firebase: anonymous usage statistics, so we know which screens work and where people give up: screens opened, sign-ins, and that a film was started, liked, passed, saved, shared or finished, with a random app-installation ID and your approximate country (from your IP address). No film titles, no email, no account ID, no advertising ID, and it's never used for ads.
- Amazon Web Services: our servers and database, in the EU (Paris).
- YouTube and Vimeo: films play in their official players, which may set their own cookies and collect data under their policies.
YouTube
Cinelet uses YouTube API Services. By watching YouTube films in Cinelet you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy. You can revoke Cinelet's access to your Google account at any time in your Google security settings.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile and your whole film history are deleted from our database. Server logs are kept for a short time only.
Your rights
You can see your history in the app, ask us for a copy, correct it, or delete everything (see Delete your account). Email nora@xranks.com for any request; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your data-protection authority.
Children
Cinelet isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't serve films that YouTube marks as made for kids.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date above and tell you in the app when the change matters.
