Bûcherons de la Manouane

Directed by Arthur Lamothe · 1963

In the snowbound forests of Quebec's Haut-Saint-Maurice, the camera follows the daily lives of 165 isolated lumberjacks, from backbreaking work in the cold to the spartan camps they return to at night.

A cornerstone of Quebec's direct cinema, capturing gruelling labour in frozen forests with raw, unvarnished honesty.

Court métrage documentaire, classique du cinéma direct, témoignant de la vie de 165 bûcherons isolés dans les forêts enneigées du Haut-Saint-Maurice.
