Shako Mako

Directed by Hailey Gates · Starring Alia Shawkat, Cristian Valle, Sara Boutine, Bruno Amato · 2019

A woman walks through an Iraqi village as American soldiers roll past, but nothing here is quite what it seems, and she's growing tired of the part she's been given.

Alia Shawkat leads a sharp, slyly absurd satire about war, performance and who gets cast in which role.

A woman (Alia Shawkat) walks in an Iraqi village. American soldiers drive by. Then, an explosion. But this is not what it appears to be, and the woman isn't happy with her role.
